I’m not a black man, and I don’t agree with the nonsense about Detroit foregoing the interview process (and NFL policy regarding hiring black coaches) to hire Steve Mariucci. However, I think that Peter King is wrong that hiring Dennis Erickson over Ted Cottrell was a matter of experience. If you push read more I’ll tell you why. I know Dennis Erickson is a good guy and a pretty good coach. I know this because I am a personal friend of one of his former players. This person told me that he is a player’s coach, and very well liked and respected. Now since I know my football I can tell you that Oregon State stunk before he got there so he can get the job done.

Ted Cottrell never had a chance. They interviewed every white guy with a pulse. If I had applied they might have considered me the next Jon Gruden for crying out loud. Their hiring process was an absolute embarrassment. Cottrell has no experience, right Peter King? Yeah, and Andy Reid (quarterback coach) and Jon Gruden (assistant, not even a coordinator) had a lot of experience – not. Play the company line, and look good on HBO because no matter how many “sources” you have, you still can’t out think me and someday soon the masses will realize that you have no edge, no real insight and no real clue.

I get more than a little uptight when someone takes the opposite approach as another stupid person (Johnnie Cochran) just to make the white people say “yeah, right on dude!” and then go off to their WASP or KKK meetings. These same idiots are ripping on Al Davis, who was the FIRST owner to hire a black head coach and the FIRST owner to hire a Hispanic head coach. Wake up and smell the coffee burning a hole in your new slacks Peter King.
