More Reality TV
The 3rd time should be the charm with Marcellus feeling threatened by Roddy's strength even though they have an alliance and Danielle certain not to pass up another shot at Roddy leaving. Those 2 votes plus Jason's deciding HOH vote would send him packing. Only Amy would be likely to save Roddy with the power of veto, which has only been used once in the game to this point.
Survivor 5 is set in Thailand, and appears to start out by pitting 8 women against 8 men. Interesting concept, although I would guess the challenges would be less physical. The premiere is Thursday September 19.
CBS pours out more reality TV with their 3rd installment of The Amazing Race which pits pairs of contestants against each other in a race around the world, with various tasks along the way impeding their progress. Let's just hope that the pair of 20's something guys don't win again, that's getting a little old.
NBC has tried to get into the reality game with efforts like Meet My Folks which sets up a single guy (or girl) with 3 singles of the opposite sex and lets the parent decide who gets to accompany their son/daughter on a trip to Hawaii. They also have the game show Dog Eat Dog which has a surivor-ish voting segment to it, wherein contestants send their opponents off to attempt tasks. If they fail, they are out of the chash for Top Dog and a chance at the top prize of 25 G's. However, in the end, the Top Dog has to sit and watch the 5 ousted contestants with the hope that 3 of them miss their questions allowing them to win the money. Huh? To make it worse, the tasks started getting repeated by the third or fourth episode.
ABC will put another edition of The Bachelor on the air, although I heard somewhere that it would be The Bachelorette and feature Trista, the final woman eliminated from Bachelor I. Their other entry was the game show The Chair, which failed miserably. Following the end of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire it is obvious ABC is not a player in reality TV. They do have an interesting play along show called Push, Nevada where folks at home use clues from the show in an effort to find the "lost" money.
Fox has the hit of the summer with American Idol which is basically Star Search without the modeling or comedy. It lost much of its luster to me when Christina and Tamyra, two of the more talented singers, were ousted early while the clearly less talented Nikki continues to avoid the axe.
