Jill Sobule on West Wing tonight
My sister just sent me this message: "Jill will be on "West Wing" tonight.... playing in a bar, "Rock Me to Sleep" and "Heroes" and saying a few words" I remember seeing Jill open for Billy Bragg in 1990 or so, at the Ford Theater in L.A. She was a last-minute sub for someone who was sick, walked on stage and introduced herself only as "Jill, the opening act", and proceeded to steal the show. She then released a miserably over-produced album, Things Here are Different (I think...thank you Todd Rundgren), and has had a few since then after leaving MCA. Her biggest hit, of course, was the questionably-lesbian "I Kissed A Girl" which gave her the blessing/curse of being tied to the lesbian audiences. Shame, too, since she's a clever wordsmith and find songwriter. (She also covers a mean "All The Young Dudes", live.)
