Billy Joel on American Idol? Well not exactly, but the kids tried to sing his songs

EntertainmentSmokey Robinson was the guest judge, and I don’t get to rip on Kimberly Caldwell as much this week because I only heard a little of her attempt at “It’s Still Rock ‘n Roll To Me”. Trust me it was enough to know she was bad. If I had heard any more the song would be dead for me. Her song list reads like a bad wedding singer, which is what she should be after she is voted off. Her exit is either this week or next. Keep reading, I’m not done ripping.

Ruben Studdard was weak with “Just the Way You Are” and it doesn’t mean he’s not talented. It just means he was weak. Simon called him out, and it is just in time because with only six left next week he can’t afford to ride the 205/Barry White wave much longer. He needs to step out and step up.

Lashundra Cobbins, uh, Trenyce, uh, what is her name again? Yeah, she was decent. She took on a song that Billy Joel did with Ray Charles and created something unique that I found palatable. Coming from me, that’s a vote of confidence because Joel is clearly in my top five favorite artists of all time. She may have kept her pulse alive.

Kimberley Locke is great, and while she didn’t do justice to “New York State of Mind” she does have talent and is constantly showing it. The problem for her is that her popular opinion is hurt by people who prefer thin blondes over plus size dark haired chicks. That’s the truth, and so she might be in the bottom 3 yet again, but her time is not up.

Joshua Gracin stumbled for the second time in three weeks. His version of “Piano Man” sucked. He should have just stuck with “Shameless” and called it good. Don’t take chances if you can’t pull it off, and this chance was not necessary. At the very least, if he does wind up in the bottom 3 he will know better than to gamble again.

Clay Aiken is Alfred E. Neuman. There, I said it. Now everyone can think I’m racist against white males, right? Am I slandering Clay? Sorry, had to address my lone critic who apparently speaks for thousands of Trenyce/Lashundra fans. Back to Clay, he’s a talent without question and he ruled “Tell Her About It”. He is leading the competition and will continue to front run for at least a week or two.

Carmen Rasmusen might have given her encore performance with “And So It Goes”. Ironic because it might be “And So She Goes” out the door. She is not great in front of the audience, and even Mr. Robinson called her out as nervous. Even still, norcaldoll thinks Caldwell should go before she does, and she was right last week about Ricky Smith biting the dust.

Here’s your results show. Carmen is out, Kimberly Caldwell escapes the grim reaper again because someone stunk more, and the first person sent back is really the only tough decision I have to make. I’ll play it safe and say Kimberley Locke although it would not shock me to see Trenyce visit the bottom 3 again or for Joshua Gracin to make a surprise appearance.
