Say it ain't so, Carl

SportCarl Lewis tested positive for banned substances before the Seoul Olympics. (That was the one where Ben Johnson had his Gold stripped for being a 'roid junkie, I think.)

I won\'t say it isn\'t so but ...

I think it is painfully obvious that Ben Johnson went way over the line in terms of how much juice he took. Word at the time was that he ran a 9.2 (hand timed) 100m in practice. Now that would still be considered an insane time, even if you add .35 (or whatever the standard is) for non-electronic timing.

Did Carl do it? I have no idea, but I guarantee that plenty of people who don\'t get caught take drugs. The truth is that only someone like myself could avoid drug testing entirely because I never took supplements of any kind. Of course, it\'s impossible to reach world class ability without adding something to the mix, even if it is over the counter supplements.

I defend Carl because he is a USA Track & Field icon. I\'m still upset that his 30\'5\" (estimated) long jump down in Houston was waved off by a minor foot foul.

One final note, if he is caught do they jockey around the medals again? Next thing you know, the guy who took 6th place that day will wind up with the gold medal and the worst guy from the final heat will take bronze!
