Peer-to-Peer Person-to-Person

Other StuffA friend who helped start SocialNet, and I remember some of the grand visions they originally had for being more than just a "dating service". Now, I see Friendster, and I wonder if this could be trying to do the same thing...

I mean...out of the blue comes PayPal co-founder Reid Hoffman, starting LinkedIn, a variation on friendster. Here's the twist: I met Reid at a friend's home. That friend was the one from SocialNet/Relationships.com. Reid had formerly started SocialNet, you see (interestingly left off of the LinkedIn website info). Also, it's a stretch to say he was a co-founder of PayPal. He was a co-founder of X.com, which bought PayPal. Wow, that sounds more negative than I intended. Truth be told, Reid seemed unusually bright, very nice, and a generally interesting fellow. And LinkedIn is a good idea. I just meant to point out that it (and friendster) are really just SocialNet version 1.5.
Me too, me too

Tribe.Net seems like a friendster without the nonsense, and with a more information-driven interface. I haven't really tried it out, yet, though.

Special Note: Reid Hoffman makes the list of "special thanks" here, too!
