American Idol’s final four gives me something to think about

EntertainmentOkay, so I think the Bee Gees are cool, and one of their members died this year so I’m trying to mark my words. I can’t, so push read more for an all out rant. Look, the show sucked. Their song choices were poor at best, and their deliveries lacked passion in most cases. If voting took place this week by people who had seen no other shows and had no previous information, clearly all four would be on the block.

Joshua Gracin made a bit of a comeback with his “Jive Talkin’” opener that Simon called “a bit manic”. I thought it was a stroke of genius to walk through the audience. At least it keeps everyone’s attention away from his fat ass. I guess dog tags and weird antics is what he has to go on right now. He decided to sing the same song as Clay Aiken with “To Love Somebody” and dare I say he was a little better at it? The dude can probably make it in Nashville, but this is AI2 and he is on borrowed time.

Clay Aiken is getting too arrogant. His opener of “To Love Somebody” seemed a little off to me, and “Grease” I merely thought was good although Simon called it simply “horrible”. I feel he lost a lot of momentum with average performances, which might dip him into the third position in the voting, but I doubt it.

Kimberley Locke sang “Everything” which Simon called “sweet and ordinary”. Thank God for Simon at times like this. He’s right. Her second song was “Emotions” and I guess it was solid, but I wasn’t moved. She has the “last woman standing” thing going for her, but based on her performances and the voting history this could be her time to exit. I have mulled the demographics angle over many times, and I have to think she’ll garner some votes based on being a woman.

Ruben Studdard was unexciting when he performed “Nights on Broadway” although I thought “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” was good. The real scoop on this is that within the scope of the competition he needs songs that are better suited for him. His range isn’t all encompassing. Last week’s visit to the block was a joke, but this week it might not be so funny for his fans.

Ultimately, Joshua Gracin can say he went out on top. He deserves to be eliminated tonight based on all the factors. First of all, he should have dropped some weight as Simon suggested weeks ago. Either that or at least wear something that doesn’t show his weight so much. He doesn’t look great on stage right now, and could look a lot better. Ruben Studdard has a much better voice, and Clay Aiken is already a star in the making. Kimberley Locke is the little girl that could, which leaves the marine marching off. I’m done for now.
