Are psychadelics good for you?
One drugged out hippie claims that psychadelics are good for you. Read that again, carefully, to understand how biased he is, and how much he wants them to be good for you.The answer, of course, is that medication (including psychadelics) can be good for you and can have positive lasting effects. It can also kill you, cause permanent brain damage, etc. This is obvious, based on how the drugs work (by causing unnatural chemical changes in the brain).
What's more puzzling to me is that fellows like this guy seem to imply that psychadelics should be legal. Think about that for a moment. Surely, they wouldn't be "over the counter", if the were legal. Because the effects can be severely positive or negative, they'd be prescription-based, controlled, and therefore less casual and recreational than they are now. They'd be less "fun". So while I'm inclined to agree that pretty much any drug should be legal, but activity under the influence should be controlled (e.g., driving while "tripping" = illegal), and while I think it might be a useful source of tax revenue and method of controlling quality...I'd think that a dude who knowingly breaks the law, goes into the woods and self-medicates...I'd think he'd oppose the legalization and therefore regulation of drugs.
What do you think? Should (for example) LSD be legal? What sort of controls should there be on it?
