The Family on ABC returns after lengthy hiatus, Susan Lucci guest stars this week

EntertainmentFollowing in the footsteps of Mole 2, The Family has resurfaced after being unceremoniously taken out of the lineup in March. The premise is fairly original I suppose, but the “cast” is not all that interesting.

Those of you who care can push “read more” for my opinions thus far.

The deal is that like every other reality TV show, a million bucks is up for grabs. The catch is that this is not 16 strangers on an island, 25 girls choosing money over love, or a baker’s dozen forced to live in a house and vote off their competition. What happens here is 10 family members, loose at that given that most are cousins, compete in a series of events while living the lap of luxury at an estate, being waited on hand and foot during their down time. What they don’t know is that the 5 staff members who serve them are the same folks who eliminate them from the shot at the million bucks once two family members have been put up on the block.

Billing it as a stereotypical Italian family from New Jersey, they use the same font for their logo as was used in the Godfather pictures. Too bad this family has less mafia in it than Oprah Winfrey. Also, because of the hiatus, now the finale is set to air on the two year anniversary of 9/11. Good planning ABC.

For a quick look at each family member click here for pics and bios of all 10 plus some words about the staff. Speaking of the staff (aka the Board of Trustees) here’s what I think of each of them.

Andrew Lowrey is the butler, and a pretty intimidating one at that. He’s one bad day away from taking over at the Bates Motel if you ask me. Well, maybe that’s too harsh because even though he’s uptight like the rest of them he seems okay.

Ringo Allen is the stick up his ass Social Secretary, who has provided service for one of dbsmall’s favorite presidents, as well as Bill Gates. He’s got the spicy gay attitude about him that annoys the snot out of me, and we’ll leave it at that.

Linda Levis is the head housekeeper from one of dbsmall’s favorite places in the world, West Palm Beach, Florida. She carries as big of an attitude as the rest of the group, and for the hired help she sure puts off an aura of being better than those around her.

Franck Porcher is the chef and while he’s no Iron Chef he is another who has served dbsmall’s favorite president and even his brother too! He has the wide mustache thing going and the stupid ass tall hat. He also knows where to tell Aunt Donna to go when she starts meddling in his kitchen. Too bad he has to say it behind closed doors and not to her face. Oh, he’s also from the section of France named after one of my two cats.

Jill Swid is your typical Stylist with (surprise, surprise) plenty of Manhattan attitude oozing out of her. Uptight and snobby are par for the course from this group, and she fits right in. I suppose since she’s a little on the ugly side, she figures she better dress nice.

For another opinion click here and I think I’m done for now.
