After four seasons, it is probably time to throw some twists into the Amazing Race formula. About the only new thing is that they called gay winners Reichen and Chip a “married couple”. Uh, no, they’re a pair of dudes who decided they’re going to spend their life together as committed gay men. Even worse, they’re annoying as hell. They remind me of the pair of chumps who won the first Amazing Race, lawyers Rob and Brennan. The only difference is they don’t kiss each other. I did get a laugh when Chip spun out his car during the finale. It got better with Reichen whining like a little girl in the back seat, scared for his life. There were other good moments … I enjoyed watching NFL wives Monica Ambrose and Sheree Buchanan, who are married to Atlanta safety Ashley and corner Ray respectively. It was a little curious to see their motivations given that their hubbies have bags of loot, but they faught their way through half the race. Tian and Jaree are possibly bland looking models I’ve ever seen, but watching them at each other’s throat was very entertaining. Obviously, I wanted clowns Jon and Al (literally, they’re circus clowns) to win, and I was pretty bummed when David and Jeff melted down on the final leg.

My suggestion to spice up the show is to allow more teams into the race, then let the leg winner eliminate their choice of the bottom three finishers during the first few weeks. That way, teams can’t lag early because if they do an early leg winner can kick them out. Are you listening CBS? I’m done for now, please implement the changes in AR5 next summer.
