David Smith as Joe Millionaire proved to be a weak follow up, but finished strong
The title of biggest tool to grace a Bachelor clone reality TV show still belongs to Robert Campos, but it was close. David Smith was like the dork in the back of the class that got picked on in school. He was sure as hell not the cool cowboy that the previews made him out to be.
With gals like Alessia, Giada, Anique and Petra among the money grubbing suitors he wound up choosing Linda from Germany over Holland’s Caterina who truly appeared to like him. Linda had previously quit the show, citing the stress of the excessive attention. Her return spelled the end of Cat because what guy doesn’t want a girl who plays hard to get?
From start to finish, nothing spectacular happened. About the only funny part was watching the girls chain smoke at the breakfast table, something you’d never see on this side of the Pacific. They even doubled up episodes into two hour showings, presumably to stop the pain of poor ratings.
The conclusion saw him choose Linda, who decided again to stiff him but wound up meeting him in Austin to profess her love. That move earned her a quarter million bucks, and David wound up with the 90 acre ranch he thought he was just visiting. I will say this, I give them a better shot at staying together than the past two Bachelor hookups and at least all the viewers didn’t feel used the way they did when Zora and Evan played us. I’m done for now.
