Apparently, Timberlake is now blaming the incident on a "costume malfunction." If the costume wasn't supposed to come off when he yanked at it, what exactly was it meant to do?

Is anyone else disturbed that this is a top news story?

Actually, I've read differing reports on this. MTV says pastie, other places say piercing. And an extreme HDTV closeup I saw makes me think it may, in fact, be a piercing, since I believe a pastie is meant to entirely cover the nipple, and whatever she was wearing simply wasn't. However, I still think it was a publicity stunt.

I just think the whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. Janet Jackson has boobs. Big deal. It's not as if we haven't seen them before.

As you predicted, Tivo issued a press release saying:

1) TiVo said that particular halftime stunt was the most replayed moment not only of the Super Bowl but of all TV moments that the young company has ever measured

2) The exercise revealed a 180% spike in viewership at the time of the \"wardrobe malfunction.\"

3) The event attracted almost twice as many viewers as the most thrilling moments on the field.

It has also been reported that FCC chairman Michael Powell is so taken with TiVo that he once referred to it as \"God\'s machine\" -- maybe he will rethink that.
