Diana Degarmo and Fantasia Barrino first pair voted into American Idol 3 finals

EntertainmentI think the judges have lost their mind, and I sincerely hope that the next three groups have more talent. What I saw in the first group of 8 was a bunch of mediocre, flat performances and a few classic songs being murdered. How on earth could Fantasia Barrino's version of "Something to Talk About" be called anything other than weak? Diana Degarmo's entry of "I got the music in me" (or whatever that song was called) amounted to a little bit of shouting and not much else. These were the ones voted into the finals?

Don't get me wrong, everyone else stunk too. The worst was probably Erskine Walcott doing "Open Arms" by Journey. Just terrible. Then again Jennifer Hudson trying to do "Imagine" by The Beatles was pretty painful to watch.

I was hoping that Matthew Metzger would have stepped it up, but although his performance was worth a #3 finish he was the definition of average. Expect him back for the wild card show, and don't forget that Clay Aiken went that route last year after getting stuck with Ruben Studdard and Kimberly Locke's group.

The others don't really deserve any mention other than to say that Katie Webber should be on her way back for the wild card show. What is up with her nose? Bad nose job or in need of a good one? She looks like Britney Spears on crack.

Looking back on this, it amazes me that these two were the ones vying for the crown in the end. They did improve over the course of the show, but the talent level certainly dropped this season. Kind of coincidental that they were the first 2 into the finals and last 2 standing in the finals. With their albums coming out shortly we will see what the public thinks of them.

that's my take
