Camile Velasco and Matthew Rogers advance to American Idol 3 finals from dreadful group 2
Randy Jackson put it best when he said he felt like he was back at the auditions. Simon Cowell said quite simply that no matter how many people show up for the competition there will only be two who are good. Amen. From a group that butchered everything from Anastasia to Norah Jones, it was Camile Velasco and Matthew Rogers who claimed 54.8% of the votes between them. I'm guessing the Roman brothers got about 1% total. They were just painful. I guess I'm still waiting for that group to wow me like the one last year with Studdard, Aiken and Locke. This group sounded like they were singing in a tunnel. There was very little "umph" to any of them and the best I can say for the duo that moves on is that they have potential. That's another way to say they aren't good right now, but could be in the future.
A lot of folks will root for Matthew Rogers because he doesn't seem to fit the part. He's almost a white Ruben Studdard with his teddy bear frame, but he'll have to come up with a different identity because Velvet Teddy Bear is taken by Ruben.
What I'm surprised about is that last week the judges praised the contestants and I don't think they were that much better than this bunch of losers. Here's hoping group 3 has something going for them or the finals might not be worth watching.
