Matthew Rogers voted out of American Idol 3 - I'm not "amazed"
Matthew Rogers was clearly in over his head, and although I thought he would skate by a couple more episodes on charisma and voting demographics, his number suddenly came up this week. He performed "Amazing" by Lone Star and was pretty bad in a week that was suited to his talents a lot more than the other 10 contestants. I anticipated Matt and Camile in the bottom 3 and thought Camile would go home. I thought Jasmine would be in that group after a terrible rendition of Faith Hill's "Breathe" but it was Diana DeGarmo who opened the show with a decent version of Martina McBride's "A Broken Wing". Nevertheless, with Diana and Camile in the bottom of the votes my pre-show predictions are looking pretty strong since I had that pair being the first two gone. My 4th and 5th to go have gone a little bit early but I'm confident that Camile's number will be up this week. She just can't cut it.
On the plus side this week, I think the strongest showing was from Fantasia Barrino who had a stunning song choice with Willie Nelson's "Always on my mind" but delivered the goods. She still annoys me though. John Stevens sand "King of the Road" by Roger Miller and I rated him the next best performance, slightly ahead of the surprising Jon Peter Lewis who did "She Believes in Me" by Kenny Rogers. JPL is certain to last longer than I had first anticipated (3rd out) although I think other than that my first 7 out will hold true in one order or another.
What struck me as odd this week was that after putting her 11 of 12 in votes suddenly the voting public threw love to Jennifer Hudson even though her performance of "No One Else on Earth" from Wyonna Judd wasn't that great. Last week's third worst Amy Adams picked herself up and was very strong in closing the show with "Sin Wagon" by Dixie Chicks.
Camile, pack your bags ...
