Christie Woods and Colin Guinn nosed out by Chip and Kim McAllister who win Amazing Race 5
Way back when this thing started (read more for details) I picked Colin Guinn and Christie Woods to take AR5. They just struck me as a pair of bulldogs from Texas. They were twice on the ropes in the legs leading up to the finale, first escaping on a non-elimination leg as 3 of the final 4 teams in the competition had. Then, much more dramatically they roared from behind on a road block when Colin scaled a mountain in no time flat, catching and passing Karen Heins who formed half of the bowling mom team with Linda Ruiz. That put them into the finals.
Once there it was a delayed fight that did in their team and the dating models, Brandon Davidson and Nicole O'Brian who was a former Miss Texas. The 17 minute lead was enough to carry Chip and Kim, who seemed pretty quick in the only remaining task, a lifesize maze, to victory. They were the only team in the race never to finish last and won 4 legs overall including the most important one - the last.
Colin and Christie started slow, finishing the first two legs in 7th and 6th, but then reeled off wins in 6 of 8 legs including 3 in a row until Chip and Kim "yielded" them, forcing a 4th place finish and save by the non-elimination leg. Brandon and Nicole won 2 legs, but after taking 6th in the opening leg never finished lower than fifth. The ill-fated team of former Big Brother 4 runner-up Alison Irwin and her then boyfriend Donny were the only other team to win a leg. Now for how we got here.... Sorry, dbsmall and norcalfella will not be appearing in Amazing Race 5, or 6 for that matter. These folks will be racing around the world trying to win a million bucks.
I am betting on Colin and Christie to win it all, with Dennis and Erika close behind. Kami and Karli should also do well. On the surface Big Brother 4's Alison and boyfriend Donny seem to be solid contenders but I'm counting on Alison to melt down. With 4 young couples in this year's bunch I think it is obvious what they're looking for to save this show's somewhat fledgling ratings.
Host Phil Keoghan says it is the most cutthroat season yet. We'll find out later this week ...
