Sean Carrigan and Corrine Van Ryck de Groot are Next Action Star winners

EntertainmentNBC's reality experiment to cast the leads for a made for TV action film didn't work out all that well. In fact, the network wound up pulling the pull on the second to last episode of the series to get it over with sooner. Ouch. The male winner was Sean Carrigan, and quite honestly I had him tabbed from the first week. He looks like Green Bay Packer quarterback Brett Favre's long lost brother and has plenty of edge. He was a cut above Jared and the rest of the pretenders.

The female side was much weaker. Melisande was clearly the best looking, but Corrine VRdG (that's the last name I give her) was much more physically capable. She had enough acting skill to pull it off, eventually beating out Jeanne in the finals.

Now they get to star in Bet Your Life with Billy Zane, which will air this Wednesday. Whether or not they, or any of the others who appeared on the show have any sort of careers is uncertain, but don't expect NAS2. However, a similar show for mainstream actors might not be so bad. I think the show would have fared better in the ratings if the spicy Viviana hadn't voluntarily left.

NAS movie Bet Your Life is a dud - Jared Elliott and Jeanne Bauer get bit parts
Authored by: norcalfella on Sunday, August 08 2004
I think Next Action Star proved a lot of things about reality TV. Most importantly it showed that you can't just change the profession and create another American Idol. From the season long ordeal, which included an episode that was yanked to get it over with, the only bright spot was Sean Carrigan who might get a little bit of a career going out of this.

He played the lead in Bet Your Life which was not an original idea and had a terribly corny script to boot. In it, however, he proved capable. Corrine, the female winner and costar, was terrible. She overdid it at every turn and in a very bad way.

They gave the second place man and woman a small part and while Jeanne Bauer did a good job with hers it became obvious why Jared Elliott didn't win during his brief stint as a taxi driver. He also got to deliver one of the worst lines of the film.

My suggestion is to take the idea to Bravo or A&E and change it to straight actors looking for more opportunities. Don't expect NAS2 on your summer 2005 schedule.
