Give it up for the fuehrer!

PoliticI really need a core story about the RNC, around which I can put all the comments, followup stories, etc. Well, Here's one cute picture.

And here's another.

I overheard some GOP spokesperson the other day explaining that the November election was about choosing Bush ("someone who you may think is wrong most of the time, but who's at least decisive") or Kerry ("someone who takes time to make decisions"). That's right. They're criticizing Kerry for taking the time to make decisions correctly, rather than for being rash and wrong.

1) Zell Miller's crazy.

2) The GOP strategy seems to be "all in" on pocket deuces, pre-flop. (If that's meaningless to you, don't worry. Just click the link and pretend I made a brilliant poker analogy.)

Seems like a lot of folks believe that the President laid out a "plan". Of course, I'd be curious about the details of the plan, and why he didn't implement the plan any time in the last 4 years.

Then, there's this:
"I don't get how Bush can talk about being the only defense against terrorism when he refuses to even say "Osama bin Laden." I don't get how he can even pretend to promote compassionate conservatism after the hate-fest of Wednesday night. I don't get how he can cast Iraq favorably, let alone comparing it to Germany- a country that "healed" after it's major war by a massive division with Communist nuclear tension for over half a century. I don't get how he can attack the "liberal Hollywood base" of the Democratic Party when not one, but two Hollywood actors gave prime time speeches at his own convention. I don't get how he can call Kerry a flip-flopper when he's changed his own opinion on the WOT twice in the last 72 hours. I don't get how he can let George Pataki talk of all the promises Bush delivered when he also promised to find bin Laden. I don't get how he could claim Kerry had no record to show for himself when he served merely six years in the most powerless governor's seat in the country and did nothing for this country not related to an unprecedented terrorist attack. I don't get how several thousand Republicans, delegates of a commitment to a love of their country, can sit there and actually believe the man running against George Bush "hates" the military."
Beautiful

Kerry had this to say:
"Doing nothing while this nation loses millions of jobs makes you unfit to lead this nation. Letting 45 million Americans go without health care makes you unfit to lead this nation. Letting the Saudi royal family control our energy costs makes you unfit to lead this nation. Handing out billions of government contracts to Halliburton while you're still on their payroll makes you unfit. That's the record of George Bush and Dick Cheney, and it's not going to change."

"The vice president even called me unfit for office last night," Kerry said. "I guess I'll leave it up to the voters whether five deferments makes someone more qualified to defend this nation than two tours of duty."
Oooh you're such a pretty boy

The RNC coverage wouldn't be complete without some comments from Michael Moore:

"Exactly what moment was it during the convention that convinced them that the Republicans had now "connected" with the majority of Americans and that it was all over? Arnold praising Richard Nixon? Ooooh, that's a real crowd-pleaser. Elizabeth Dole decrying the removal of the Ten Commandments from a courthouse wall in Alabama? Yes, that's a big topic of conversation in the unemployment line in Akron, Ohio. Georgia Sen. Miller, a Democratic turncoat, looking like Freddy Krueger at an all-girls camp? His speech — and the look on what you could see of his strangely lit face — was enough for parents to send small children to their bedrooms."

Part 4 of the Rude Pundit's advice on how to beat Bush.

"It's time for the Kerry campaign to start talking about the Presidency of George Bush. Senior. It's time for the surrogates on the Sunday gabfests to offer measured praise for Bush I. (Yeah, yeah, the Rude Pundit *censored*in' hated Poppy then and hates him now, but context is all.) Now, there's the obvious reason to break out the father, the only one that's ever been mentioned, the very real coalition of nations that Bush I put together to fight the Gulf War in 1991. That coalition contributed over 100,000 troops and tens of billions of dollars to the war effort. And, at the beginning of the war, there was reference to Bush I's belief that to go into Baghdad would plunge Iraq into chaos and destabilize the Middle East. Check out this speech to Gulf War Veterans in 1999, where Poppy said, "Had we gone into Baghdad -- we could have done it, you guys could have done it, you could have been there in 48 hours -- and then what? Which sergeant, which private, whose life would be at stake in perhaps a fruitless hunt in an urban guerilla war to find the most-secure dictator in the world? Whose life would be on my hands as the commander-in-chief because I, unilaterally, went beyond the international law, went beyond the stated mission, and said we're going to show our macho? We're going into Baghdad. We're going to be an occupying power -- America in an Arab land -- with no allies at our side. It would have been disastrous." These things ought to be in ads. "
