Jerry Ferris stunned by Jen Schefft's rejection on Bachelorette 3 after she also denied John Paul Merritt
Finally something at least a little bit shocking happened on the Bachelor/Bachelorette series. It did take them 9 seasons though. After internet rumors had Jen Schefft dating her boss, we wondered if this would be breakup #7 for the nearly doomed series. Of course, no one expected it to happen before the final episode was over.
Jen originally came to us when Andrew Firestone chose her in Bachelor 3, a season made famous by featuring a "real millionaire" in response's to Fox's wildly popular Joe Millionaire. Of course that romance didn't last, but she stayed in the news by hooking up with Bill Rancic who won the first season of The Apprentice.
After we've already seen Bob Guiney make a mockery of the show and then marry soap star Rebecca Budig later, football bench warmer Jesse Palmer hand out a plane ticket before quickly dumping his choice and Meredith Phillips proving that even the Bachelorette versions can fail by breaking up with Ian McKee.
That leaves my man Byron Velvick and the show's lone married couple Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter as the only successful couples of the 9 seasons.
Where does the show go from here? Ironically, I said before the announcement was made that they needed a celebrity bachelor. Of course, they had to go D list and get someone who isn't famous enough to be featured on The Surreal Life - Charlie O'Connell. He is most famous as being the little brother of Jerry who was seen in the movie Jerry Maguire and starred in Sliders, a long running series that Charlie joined in the later years. Word is that if ratings continue to tumble it will be 10 and done.
