Where the WTF

The fam and I went to see Where the Wild Things Are, today. The kid (almost 7 y.o.) was scared a few times, and didn't seem discouraged or confused by some things that puzzled me.
I mean, the movie is one part WTWA, one part Lord of the Flies, one part Timothy Leary, and one part Ordinary People.
So, I love the book. I love the illustrations in "In the Night Kitchen" and "Outside Over There", but felt that the fact that I'd never dropped acid precluded me from really understanding them.
And the movie's something different. These wild things are some combination of the kid's hedonistic nature, his id, his fears... When it worked, my jaw hit the floor, with how artistically brilliant the movie was. When it didn't, my finger scratched my head, as I tried to reason out what Jonze was trying to do. What did you think?
(And also, do you have any idea what KW is supposed to stand for? Or what on Earth Terry and Bob were supposed to signify?)
