Don't See"The Lorax"

Say what you want about my expectations for "The Lorax".

Come on, you had to know it'd be cloying!

Surely, you realized it wouldn't be as brilliant as the book.

It's inspired by the book, not a retelling of it, you ninny.

If it's any of the above, you, too, expected more from the movie than it delivers.

Dr. Seuss's book is a succinct environmentalist tale, told by the regretful Once-ler, about the dangers of prioritizing self-interest and greed above doing the "right thing".

It's full of colorful characters---the Once-ler, the Lorax, the brown barbaloots (in their barbaloot suits), truffula trees, swomee swans, humming fish, and a few extras.

And the movie?  It has the same characters (though the barbaloots are 'bear-guy', and there is absolutely no explanation for why the humming fish or swomee swans are there...and no explanation about what happens to the barbaloot tummies because their food source is destroyed, and no intorduction to glumping the pond or smogging the air.  In the movie, the Once-ler chops down the trees, and all of these mysterious, unnamed, bizarre creatures leave...without much explanation other than "you should feel guilty".

So they've completely destroyed the original point of the book, and turned it into a guilt-trip without rationale.

Then they glumped up the plot, by adding a teen romance to it.  And an evil bad-guy corporation (not the Once-ler's).

Honestly, I don't know if this is as bad as Breaking Dawn...but it is far worse than I imagined.  And my expectations were quite low.
