Paula Abdul sex scandal does little to stop American Idol 4 finals but the singing is horrible

EntertainmentSomeone forget to tell the remaining four contestants that this is a signing competition. I can tell you right now that Constantine Maroulis, Jessica Sierra, Celena Rae and Joseph Murena would not have sucked last night but the voters screwed all of them one by one. Joseph got jobbed before the finals even began and might have had one of the best voices in the whole damn thing. What we’re left with is a country star, graspy voiced rocker, screaming black chick and a gutsy foreigner without a clue.

On country/rock night the blonde duo chose the same song out of Philly and both were bad. However, Anthony Fedorov (is this happening?) won the night for us because his opening “I’m Already There” from Lone Star wound up as the highest scoring song of the night. Now that’s pathetic. Carrie Underwood’s “Sin Wagon” from the Dixie Traitors, uh, Chicks was pretty bad considering it should have been right up her alley. She was a close second in our scoring and is dangerously close to catching Bo overall.

Speaking of the hairy one, he ruined Travis Tritt to open and then sang the theme song to The Apprentice “For the Love of Money” which I thought was a mess. A few weeks back he did the theme to WB’s One Tree Hill so perhaps this is a plan of his. The truly worst performer was Vonzell Solomon. Girl, if Leann Rimes screws up Trisha Yearwood’s brilliant song “How Do I Live” then don’t even try it. Her “Don’t Leave Me This Way” was mute button bad. Now I understand she had some sort of problem that made her cry on stage, but she has sucked for weeks and still sucks. She is a full quarter point on average worse than Anthony in our overall scoring and that really takes some effort.

Obviously it would seem to boil down to Anthony and Vonzell in the bottom two unless some people with bad intentions at VFTW or ones with sympathy for a bawler push either of them up. Rumors have “The Vonz” being homesick, finding out her father has cancer or her Yorkshire Terrier being killed. Well, whatever it is she can get home to deal with it because she is out thanks to my 9 call-in votes for the A-Train.

A-Fed says a final goodbye thanks to Vonzell Solomon's histrionics

Well if you're going to get cut, just cry for a little of the sympathy vote. I guess that was the message this week. Even though Anthony Fedorov (if A-Fed sticks you heard it here first) was possibly the best performer, if only for this one night, he was sent home after what I think had to be an unprecedented sixth trip to the bottom 3. I mean for crying out loud, Vonzell is now up to 4, Scott had 3 before his ouster. The rest of the 6 previously cut singers had a grand total of 5 showings in the bottom group prior to being sent home.

What does this tell us? Well, Bo smelled the lowest vote total for a safe singer one week and hasn't been close to the bottom group since. Carrie has never appeared in that company and is looking like she will pull a Kelly Clarkson, winning it wire to wire. If Vonzell isn't cut this week I'm going to be sick. Her little crying act was a joke. People thought her dog died, father had cancer or something was seriously wrong. Nope, none of that was true she just knew her ass was on the line.

that's my take
