If we believe the nonsense that is the latest Hollywood relationship to surface in the hopes that their movies will earn more money, Katie Holmes was probably a lovesick 14 year old watching Days of Thunder back in 1990, dreaming of being with star Tom Cruise. Yesterday, that came full circle when he proposed to her at the Eiffel Tower. Not that anyone is buying it. Cruise has been branded a lunatic while Holmes is simply the latest in a line of women who hook up with him so their career can take off. It worked for Kidman, not so much for Cruz. The coincidence of both having summer blockbusters made this match tough for the media and public to buy this pairing as they promote Batman Begins and War of the Worlds.

The truth is that it might work. Batman is off to a $15M first day while the rumored Pitt/Jolie hookup that supposedly broke up his marriage led to Mr. and Mrs. Smith taking home $50M in the first weekend.

Really the most troubling part of this is that Holmes comes from a family where scientology is the farthest thing from their minds, but apparently her soul is for sale because now she is buying into it so people will believe her pairing with Cruise. Can't Tom just come out of the closet already?
