The original "real" Gilligan's Island was pretty forgettable as a supposed spoof of Survivor. This time it seemed strangely more palatable, probably because they doubled up on the episodes each week. I'm guessing that both seasons were filmed simultaneously after no one in season 2 made any mention of knowing the format and nothing was changed. The fact that Angie Everheart had to exit early this time around is likely what led to running this one second. Season 1 milked having two "movie stars" by keeping them on the island as long as possible.

One thing we were exposed to this time is a poor man's Boston Rob in the form of Shawn Manning (Gilligan) who also hails from New England. I don't know what was more annoying about him. It could have been his unwarranted arrogance, the fact that he peed in his own hut, or how weirded out I was when he asked Tiy-E (professor) to shave parts of his body. Speaking of Mr. Muhammad, he's basically the male version of Dolly Parton from Straight Talk with no real degree.

I digress, the best part of Shawn was how he tried to act like he didn't have a crush on Randi Silvers (Mary Ann) after she rejected him. From that point on he acted like a scorned school boy, resorting to calling her ugly and picking on her. Then he gets her voted out by convincing eventual winner "Crazy" Charlie Albert (Skipper) to vote her out because of her strength.

Lucky for Charlie, resident fringe movie star Erika Eleniak (known for Baywatch, but apparently in E.T. too) decided the following week to tie up the vote by casting Tiy-E's doll into the box, leading to his ouster based on previous votes.

In the end, Charlie won by a landslide on the final challenge and the sight of him being taken away by a helicopter is probably going to be the last you see of The Real Gilligan's Island. That's probably a good thing because the only highlight for me was the gutsy host diving into the water during a challenge to save a drowning Tiy-E.
