NFL Predictions 2006: Super Bowl XLI

SportAs 1 vs. 100 host Bob Saget would say... This game is simple.

Indianapolis (15-4) vs. Chicago (15-3): pick IND -6.5/under 48.5

That being the case, by now you know the jock size of every player on both teams. What it really comes down to is Peyton Manning having his opportunity to win a Super Bowl. Having had an extra week to settle his nerves he will be ready to play. If you look at the list of quarterbacks winning it all there are really no duds on the list. Trent Dilfer had possibly the NFL's greatest defense ever behind him. Rex Grossman will field a very good defense missing two important ingredients in safety Brown and tackle Harris. Their special teams are great so their returner Hester will repeatedly keep getting them field position. Unfortunately it will be their kicker Gould going for 3 while Peyton leads drives for 7.

The over/under on this game has bothered me over the last day. Something tells me Urlacher will have his guys ready to pick up the slack on defense and there might be early nerves on the part of the Indianapolis offense. This could create a 3-0 end to the first quarter. After that it probably opens up, but the damage might be done. With a little reluctance I will switch my earlier thought of 31-20, or at the very least Indianapolis in the 30's and Chicago in the 20's to a lower scoring affair that leaves the game in the balance when Chicago last has the ball. The Bears won't be able to run the way they are accustomed to or slow down the fast Colts with field conditions as they did to the Saints in the NFC Championship game.

Indianapolis 24, Chicago 16
