J.D. Fortune wins Rock Star: INXS and makes the show a huge success - Marty Casey great too
I know, I haven't posted a lot of the reality TV garble that I normally do and this is days late and many dollars short, but I have to at least chime in on this. First of all, the singing on RS was a lot better than American Idol. The songs made available were superior and word is that owners of the music were more apt to let quality performers handle their tunes. Of course I knew J.D. was going to win this thing, it was only obvious. His "Pretty Vegas" original song has already been used on the television show Las Vegas for crying out loud. Take that Ruben Studdard and Fantasia Barrino.
Marty Casey did prove to be a very worthy opponent. His personal original song "Trees" was better than anything cooked up by the Idol crew. His style didn't suit them and that was clear to me, but his career should zoom on if he does in fact open for INXS.
Mig Ayesa was not very good. He appealed to the girls voting and got Jasmine Trias style boost from Australia voters to advance deep into the competition. I didn't feel he was ever close to winning.
Suzie McNeil faded out at the end. She had some bright moments, but ultimately proved to be too limited in what she could do.
Jordis Unga had the most extreme highs and lows possible. At times she was brilliant and other times she was miserable. I feel she has some potential though.
Wil Seabrook is one guy who should have been given a shot. I swear the band was jealous that he would steal their spotlight as a California pretty boy. As it turned out, they wound up with J.D. who probably will too but I imagine Wil could have made a move if he wasn't knocked out way too early.
Neal Carlson thought he was trying out for The Rolling Stones apparently. He could probably be in their tribute band and if Mick Jagger retires (yeah, that'll happen) he would win Rock Star 2 for sure.
Ty Taylor reared the ugly head of racism by whining that fans didn't like him because he is black. No, it's because you suck when you try singing rock songs dude. If you can't pull off Cult of Personality (from the best black rock band ever - Living Colour) then you are done. He was great singing slow songs and has a very pure voice. Suited for INXS? Not even close. His complaints about how tough it is for blacks to get into the rock business are completely unfounded. Dude, all the black people are rappers and last I checked there weren't many TRYING. You are black. You are gay. Get over it. No one judges you on your skin color or sexual preference.
Brandon Calhoon was dreadful. What made him worse was his opinion that he didn't want to improve himself based on people who know a lot more than he does. I wouldn't hire this guy to sing at an empty bar.
Where do we go from here? Van Halen? That is one of the rumors because they can't get Diamond Dave off his high horse. The second season should produce more applicants, especially since J.D. is now a millionaire leading a revitalized band. Ratings will go through the roof next summer, mark that down so you don't forget I said it first. I'll try to add more thoughts to this piece later when I have more time.
