Amazing Race 6 concludes worst season ever with Freddy and Kendra nosing out Kris and Jon

EntertainmentWhy was this the worst Amazing Race season ever? Let me count the ways. I can start with the final 4. We were left with four basically identical teams, all of them white male/female pairings and other than Freddy (who is 35) all were between 25 and 30 years old. Is this Big Brother? There were really no interesting teams other than wrestlers Lori and Bolo, and no I don't count weirdo abusive husband Jonathan who pushed his wife to tears in every episode. They'll get theirs when they appear on a Dr. Phil special to air sometime soon.

The only non-white couple I recall would be the painfully weak Hera and Gus. You would think being ex-CIA is an advantage, but apparently not. Casting Avi and Joe basically ensured having a lame duck team to exit in the first episode.

What was most painful about this season was the final episode. All season they gave us a pattern that could be followed, but evidently they decided not to follow it for the last leg. Instead they gave third place team Adam and Rebecca (six hours behind) no opportunity to get back into the mix, something that in other legs would surely have been possible. The tasks were inane, with one being the simple event of falling tandem out of an airplane and the other being eating two small slices of pizza. What we were left with was basically taxi drivers deciding who won between the final two teams. It was a very, very stupid ending. Nothing against Freddy and the very unpopular Kendra, but they had only wound up first on one other leg the entire race. Kris and Jon won 4, while fourth place finishers Hayden and Aaron also won 4. Two other teams won a leg each.

What's next? Well, television's most watched network will continue to force this show down our throat, debuting AR7 in just three weeks with 11 new teams including Rob and Amber of Survivor All-Stars fame. Somewhat interesting is that AR8 will be a family edition where teams of 4 related people (minimum age 12) will compete.

What would I do to fix the show? Too many things to list. I'll start with making it MATTER when you show up to a place that is closed. To do that I'd put numbers on the front door and when it opens let the first place team in, followed by increments of 3-5 minutes for the other teams. Next, I'd consider starting the teams at the same time instead of staggering them. This is more expensive to produce and possibly problematic, but worth it and considering they spend just a million bucks on the winner I think they could afford it.

Next I would revise the detour choice. If there are 7 teams left, only 4 teams can choose a certain challenge on a first come, first serve basis meaning if you get there late you are stuck with whatever you get. I'm so sick of seeing most of the teams go for the same task. I would also shuffle up the order of the detour/road block and even have legs where there are two of one of them.

How about AR all-stars? That would be good. I'd go wild with 20 teams. This season I think you would keep Kris & Jon, Lori & Bolo, Hayden & Aaron from a strength standpoint with possibly Lena & Kristy and Adam & Rebecca from an entertainment angle.

From AR5 it would be Colin & Christie, Chip & Kim and Brandon & Nicole for power teams with Charla & Mirna for the feel good team.

From AR4 you would start with Chip & Reichen (if they'll do it since they have split up) and David & Jeff as strong teams with Jon & Al as the fun team. Kelly & Jon could appear if C&R decide not to.

From AR3, a very weak group, you would start with Derek & Drew and probably take winners Flo & Zach out of obligation with Teri & Ian also included as one of few older couples in All-Stars.

From AR2 you'd get some of my favorite teams starting with the very entertaining Oswald & Danny. Chris & Alex and Tara & Wil would have to be locks.

From the original AR I think Kevin & Drew would have be in the mix, as would Joe & Bill (Team Guido) while Rob & Brennan (the first winners) and Frank & Margarita also appear to be strong candidates.

That's 22 teams, or double what the show normally entails but here's a different angle. Pump that up to 24 teams (factoring in AR7 entrants) and start with two races featuring 12 teams. Air the episodes twice a week to start (or two hours if it is during the summer) and when six teams have been cut from each race their paths will cross for a final 12. Now that would be too cool for these dumbass producers to think of.
