The gist is this.  As we run out of cheaply collectable oil, everything goes to Hell in a handbasket...distribution costs skyrocket, plastics become infeasible, etc.

So what do you do?  Become self-sufficient and live on a farm?  Start wars with oil-rich countries to stave off the catastrophe?  Make French onion soup (mmmmm....)?
