Top n things from or about Texas

Top n ListsWith all my Texas-bashing when talking about the Cancer-in-Chief, some of y'all might think I don't like the place. So I decided to make a (running) list of the top things to come out of Texas. Here's where I got to:
  1. Whole Foods (for inspiration to market...overpriced, but what a surprise it's in Texas)
  2. Dell
  3. TI
  4. Gene Roddenberry
  5. Don Henley
  6. Stevie Ray Vaughn
  7. Southwest Airlines
  8. Bowling for Soup
Now, you'll notice some things missing, and I think I oughta explain.
The Dixie Chicks might have made it for being a pretty good crossover band. But then, once they had publicity for some political remarks, they caved in, despite the fact that they had actually said nothing wrong. "We're embarrassed he's our president" was all they said. And anyone who's not spinning it is a little embarrassed too. Or stupid.
Lance Armstrong doesn't make it, because Greg LeMond is still the greatest American cyclist. And Mr. LeMond wasn't and EPO-fiend.

I'd also like to point out that the Texas list took me a few days to compile. But here, off the top of my head/5 minutes, is a California list:
The ocean
Skiing
The VC heartland
Agriculture out the ying-yang
Yahoo!
Google
Cisco
Disneyland
Faz (or, for those that care, Ghirardelli, or Chez Panisse and its descendents, or...)
Great Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Italian, Jewish, Mediterranean, etc. all around here
Name a movie
Since one fella once told us that "I don't know about the Bay Area, but in Texas, we have two of the top uni's right near Austin", I'll throw out Cal, Stanford, Santa Clara, St. Mary's, Davis, UOP, ...all within 2 hours of my house and all better than #3 in Texas"
Neil Young
Intel

Feel free to do it for any state, but kudos if you can come up with more for Texas...

Football and Track & Field athletes, but hey there are a lot more important things in life so I'm not sure that counts. I can't be certain why I would chime in with anything for Texas either...

Houston, thanks for stealing our San Jose Quakes soccer team. They are now called the '1836' which is perhaps the worst nickname ever.

Austin, thanks for ripping off Cal Berkeley from obtaining the Rose Bowl bid they deserved after the 2004 season. Sure, without the top 3 WRs the Golden Bears might not have taken out Michigan, but at least they would have been on the field. Can we get a lifetime ban on Texas teams playing in the Golden State? That'd be fine by me.

The "bad" list would have been so much easier... and if I might offer a few more good things to come out of California:

Put the Chicks back on the "good" list. They apologized for their phrasing i.e., that the president's from Texas), but not for what they meant (the CiC is a doo-doo-head).

Yeah, put the Dixie Chicks back on the "good" list.:
i made my bed and i sleep like a baby
with no regrets and i don’t mind sayin’
it’s a sad sad story when a mother will teach her
daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger
and how in the world can the words that i said
send somebody so over the edge
that they’d write me a letter
sayin’ that i better shut up and sing
or my life will be over

Bowling for Soup is playing at the Alameda County Fair.  In California.  Tonight.
Oh, you know I'm going to see that.  (It'll be Buko's second time seeing them in concert---really.)

But I'm puzzled.  Do you think they'll play Ohio?
I mean...seriously...all the bands that have come out of the Bay Area (or even just Alameda county), and you'd think at the County Fair they'd want to showcase local talent, rather than bands who criticize places that aren't Texas.

The price of living is lower than most places. There is no government income tax. The business market and frugality here is well. I cannot say enough about the Southern Hospitality, the individuals here are usually lovely from my experience and according to the research of UK Dissertation Writing Service team. It's more different than most people think. There are a best multiplicity of humanities and foodstuff here.
