Quick, mash-up artists, get on this

I don't think it's an accident that Babyface duplicated the rhythm from Howard Jones.  See the videos after the break.

Post Harry Potter Depression Syndrome (PHDPS)

Entertainment

I've already told you I was going to reread Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.  And while I enjoyed the book, I came upon a familiar feeling as I finished it (to begin reading Faith of the Fallen (Sword of Truth, Book 6) ).  I enjoyed the stories, the characters, and the simple plot twists, and I didn't want it to end.  Furthermore, beginning the Terry Goodkind book...like I said before, the man's not a very good writer.  (In much the same way, holy cow does this movie reveal that some of the actors have matured, and others---Hermione's actress, for example---simply have no emotional range as actors.)

So there are three things I want to highlight about Harry Potter:

  1. Why I don't understand part of HP7

  2. Which additional books I might like Rowling to write

  3. One line assessments of all 7 books

Ifthey had the Internet when I was a kid

I'd still not be a competent guitarist.  But I couldn't claim I was missing resources, like Fretbase.

Tablature, all over the place, man.  I'd have finally been able to learn something not in the Complete Beatles...

Always Remember the Little People

Entertainment

We had a free movie ticket, so took the kid to see Jack Black's latest movie adaptation of Gulliver's Travels.

It was everything you'd expect from a Jack Black vehicle:  mildly entertaining, with lots of self-effacing humor, and rock-and-roll-teenager-antics.

I was put off, initially, that all of the adaptations of the legendary satire seemed to focus on Lilliput, and not on the themes of the original work.

Harry Potter and the Careful Study of What Works

Entertainment

I've abruptly switched from reading Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series, to rereading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

It highlights just what an invariable, unartistic writer Goodkind was, the brilliant ear of Mark Twain and...

Look, I adore the Harry Potter series.  I've enjoyed reading them, and I contend they're really well-written (although books 3, 4, and 5 definitely could have used some editing).  But switching from Goodkind to Rowling was *shocking*.  I analyze things.  It's a hobby, a habbit, and a defining characteristic of me.  And I think I've figured out what really impresses me about Rowling's writing.

Comics are a serious art form

I was always a huge fan of Calvin & Hobbes, and while I respect Bill Watterson's decision to quit before he started to hate the job, or became less creative...I miss it.

CeeLo regresses

Entertainment

The new CeeLo song (Yes, CeeLo  of Gnarls Barkley) is going to be a George Carlinesque challenge to play on terrestrial radio.  Why?  It's all full of swear words.

After the "Read More", you can see the video with lyrics, which illustrates that artistic talent does not necessarily coincide with social maturity:
