Not exactly "health food"

Food

Mad something delightfully simple, and simply delicious.  Yeah, it's vegetarian, but no, it's not healthy.

Top 5 Falafel Places Near Dublin, CA

Food

I used to be jealous of places with decent falafel.  My sister, near Boulder, CO, has Falafel King.  Folks in NY have myriad choices.  MickeyLex has Julia's Kitchen in Sacramento.  And near my house, it used to be a barren wasteland, when it comes to falafel.  In the last 2 years, that's changed.  In fact, I'd contend we have really good falafel, better than Boulder's, at least.  And here are my Top 5, within 20 miles of my house:

Kid, I'm just preparing you for your college culinary experiences

Food

I've had a number of observations about food, lately, none of which could stand on their own as a story.  But, as an aggregate, these notes (made, usually, with my son) might interest you.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate?

Food

I've always said that the key to a great hot sauce is that it should have components of sweet, salt, bitter, and sour.

And every once in a while, I will try something that just goes together deliciously (e.g. sriracha + cilantro).

Rice Cooker Bread

Food

When I was in college, I used to make this fantastic beer-smoked gouda-wheat bread.  I've tried to make it again, recently, a couple of times.  The result was...

Would like to eat

FoodBookmarked this vegan cooking site a long time ago, mostly because of this recipe.  Not only does it sound good, but it also seems like the technique could be expanded beyond Black Beans and couscous.

Things I think you could substitute for the couscous:
  • quinoa
  • bulghur
  • orzo
  • brown rice (or, I suppose, some other kind of rice)

I'm hot blooded

FoodThe hottest pepper I ever ate was in Kenya.  I thought it was a very long green bean, and took quite a bite.  Fortunately, while it burned like crazy for 2 minutes, the heat just dissipated.

(By contrast, Habanero "heat" tends to stay with you for a while).

I wonder about the Dorset Naga.  What?  You've never heard of a Dorset Naga?

Yum!

FoodI've been reading the hungry tiger (some might say "lurking") for some time now.  I don't know how I first found it, but you've gotta respect anyone who enjoys food as much as "redfox" does.

Plus, I get ideas from reading what she's done.  I'm not much of a "recipe cooker", but when someone illustrates what worked about what they did, it really helps.
(On that note, I can highly recommend throwing some aluminum foil on the grill, some sliced white onions, some herbs, and a little oil.  Then BBQ something on the other side that smokes quite a bit and goes well with awesome onions.)
