NFL predictions 2013: Week 13

Sport

One of these days I might break through. One of these days was not last week, so I’m talking about another quite average performance. Thanks to some upsets I was 7-6-1 straight up (111-64-1 overall) and out of the misses I have to say I’m most disappointed with Detroit (turnovers) Raiders (field goal misses) and Giants (slow start). Calling the big New England win saved me from a losing week without the points and that’s painful.

I’m in the No. 26 spot overall now, with Fox’s John Halpin (120) the new leader just ahead of NFL Network’s Gregg Rosenthal (119). They each got 10 last week to make up serious ground.

NFL Predictions 2013: Week 12

Sport

Oh what a brutal week! The only good thing was going 10-5 straight up (104-58 overall) and moving up to the 26 spot in the field of media pickers. The CBS computer (Prediction Machine) moved to a tie with ESPN’s Ron Jaworski for first place at 112 and while being 8 back seems like a hill I could climb, trust me it’s highly unlikely I will catch them.

NFL Predictions 2013: Week 12 (sort of)

SportI'll update this and make it a comment on norcalfella's post, later.

For now, I'm 106-56 in straight-up picks, which I think still has me ahead of him.

This week:
NO
PIT
DET
GB
HOU
BAL
KC
CHI
CAR
ARI
OAK
NYG
DEN
SF

I don't think any of these should need explanation, except possibly OAK or PIT. OAK is winning ugly. And I can just not pick CLE. That's your answer...

NFL Predictions 2013: Week 11

Sport

I’m about to go into tilt over last week. I don’t have a research team at my disposal, but I’ll go out on a limb and say that never in the history of the league have three teams with a combined 1-23 record entering a given week gone 3-0. Las Vegas won some money I’m sure. Even the reliable Prediction Machine (CBS) went 6-8 straight up and stands at 100-47 behind ESPN’s Ron Jaworski (103-44) who is the leader of the experts.

My 6-8 mark (94-53 overall) dropped me to 32 on the list, and that’s a bummer. I was also 6-8 against the spread (69-76-1 overall) and it’s starting to get serious because I hate dipping below .500 especially by more than a few. I did manage to go 9-5 on the over/under (85-63-1 overall) so there’s that. No one cares about the total points though, let’s be honest.

NFL predictions 2013: Week 10

I would love to know what in the world went wrong for me last week so I can fix it immediately. Unfortunately it might not be so simple. I was just 8-5 straight up (88-45 overall) although that did move me up to 19 in the compiled pick’em so maybe it was just one of those rough weeks to project. It wasn’t impossible to expect the Jets beating the Saints who seem to blow games outdoors frequently against seemingly inferior opposition. Their fans better not expect to win the Super Bowl this year by the way.

NFL predictions 2013: Week 9

Sport

I finally had a week I can feel pretty good about. If not for going against my favorite team (Oakland) I would have been perfect straight up, but 12-1 (80-40 overall) is fine I guess. There are 21 people ahead of me, and Ron Jaworski (87-33) is still at the top of the pack. A computer (CBS Prediction Machine) is second (85-35). If you’re curious, two people did go 13-0 although since someone in the office pool I play in did as well I’m not going to offer details on their identities.

NFL Predictions 2013: Week 8

Sport

There’s a song that says I can’t complain, but sometimes I still do. I would change it to “I always do” because no matter what I want to have a better week. Last week I was a respectable 10-5 straight up (68-39 overall) while going 7-8 against the spread (53-52-1 overall) and 8-7 on the over/under (58-49 overall). These aren’t bad numbers, but I keep waiting for the huge week to get ahead of Vegas and start to challenge the best of the best picking winners. At 68 winners I am eight behind Ron Jaworski who leads the way and rank #37 among the top 100 or so “pros” from the major networks. This does not make me happy, and I am working on changing it.

NFL predictions 2013: Week 7

Sport

This is starting to get annoying. It seems I am taking a little longer to warm up. I was only 10-5 straight up (58-34 overall) and that’s as good as it was last week. Against the spread I submarined at 6-9 (46-44-1 overall) and went 7-8 on the over/under (50-42 overall). Let’s try to turn this around.

NFL predictions 2013: Week 6

Sport

Is it possible for a week to have felt better than it actually was? Good grief. I was only 9-5 straight up (48-29 overall) and 9-5 against the spread (40-35-1 overall) while going 7-7 on the over/under (43-34 overall). Maybe I should be happy that I remain ahead of Vegas, or that I won a $40 bet on the Browns, breaking my streak of losing the only 2 other bets I made on football.

NFL predictions 2013: Week 5

Sport

Another week of mediocrity for me, but hopefully I will turn it around eventually. I was a serviceable 10-5 straight up (39-24 overall) but flat against the spread (7-7-1, 31-30-1) and over/under (7-8, 36-27). Probably not a good time for me to go to Vegas, where I will be the rest of the week not betting on any of these games. Well, maybe the Thursday night one. Maybe.
