The worst kind of pain?

Sci & TechWhat's the worst pain you've ever felt?

My Dad used to say it wa when he had dental surgery.  (Note:  he didn't update this when the cancer had spread to his spine, but given his gasping, despite having heavy medication, I suspect that was worse.)

Several people have told me that a kidney stone is the worst.

I don't think I've had all that much pain---worst I've felt is either breaking my toe, stubbing it, or dislocating my shoulder while snowboarding.

My niece said being stung by a hornet was the worst.  Did you know there's an "objective" scale of insect sting pain?  There is:  The Schmidt Sting Pain Index.

Science vs. Faith

Sci & TechSo true.  So very true.  And unfortunately, the "faithful" both use the "theory" to better the world, and to make it worse for people.

Technology hits the floor

Sci & TechI've read this site for a while now and always enjoyed the stories both big and small. I recently came across a cleaning aid that fits in the technology section, so here's my contribution. My husband bought me a Roomba robotic vacuum for my birthday. The technology comes in with the device's ability to manuveur around a room with sensors: zooming under couchs, chairs, and tables, zipping around corners, over hardwood floors and carpets sucking up dust and particles of every sort with minimal human intervention--except to turn it on and let it go that is.
