Why I'll Never Again Do Business with ING

BusinessFor a while (more than 10 years, I think), I've had a Netbank account.  Why?  Well, they were the first ones to really roll out Internet banking (online bill pay, etc.)  And I really, really advocate online bill pay.  ING bought Netbank, recently, and I have this to report:

They're dishonest, unhelpful, unethical, and---some might argue---criminal.

The Babysitting Syndicate

BusinessWow, what a powerful metaphor for the economy!

"...money managed so as to maintain high levels of economic activity contains the germ of its own destruction, and how under certain eerily familiar circumstances careless holders of this money can be ruined."

Goooooo

BusinessI'm puzzled at Google's continued success---not at their success in business...but at their success in hiring talented people and in attracting same.

See, it seems to me that a lot of their attraction comes from the "you can play foosball all day" blather.  And that's a bit of a moral hazard, eh?  I mean, the people who you attract with that approach aren't exactly who you want to hire.
(I also think that Amazon's Omakase ads, or whatever they're called---contextually-relevant purchasing opportunities...I think they have a chance to put a chink in Adwords/Adsense armor, if their matching and display is broad enough.)

Oh, dear God, the corporate life kills people

BusinessI think I have it bad, sometimes.

But check out this poor sot, from BankOne.    Fellow's covering U2, sings well, and feels obligated to rewrite the lyrics until they're painful.

And he probably couldn't get a singing gig, otherwise.  I'm sure he gets home from work and has to take anti-depressants.

Because you were so right the last time

BusinessBusiness 2.0, a magazine with a name that implies they believed in the "new economy" of the dotcom bubble is weighing in on the real-estate bubble.

Oh, this is rich...the job market sucks.  There's been abnormal appreciation for almost a decade.  Many people (yours truly, included), couldn't afford their home if they had to buy it, today.  And  yet, some markets are bubble-proof?

It's interesting that, during a bubble, lots of people, even authorities, will claim that the bubble doesn't exist.  It's a "new economy".  We've reached permanently high plateaus.  Sanka tastes just as good as the caffeinated brands.

An enigma, shrouded in duality, wrapped in a lie.

BusinessKen Lay is dead.

  • Ken Lay had no idea what was going on, when Enron defrauded millions out of energy dollars, pensions, etc., and he was the CEO.
